Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts temporarily ditched her glamorous lifestyle recently to help out at Paul Newman's camp for sick children.

New mother Roberts interacted with children at Newman's Hole in the Wall Camps as a volunteer counselor, and she found the whole experience extremely rewarding.

She says, "Paul's such an inspiration... and we all reap the happiness of it. All anybody wants is a little bit of freedom to move and a whole lotta love to feel secure to move around in. And that's what camp is. It's just fresh air and love and lemonade...

"You think it's about doing something for other people but in the final tally of it all you just leave so heavy with joy and the love that you got and the friendships that you made. It's really one of the happiest places. The buoyancy; you could just float."

And Newman admits he was very impressed with Roberts' conduct, explaining, "When she came up there was no fanfare. She got up at 5:30, she did stuff with the kids, she didn't ask for any special attention and among movie stars I would say that is an extraordinary gesture of good faith. One of the kids said, 'My God, Tinkerbell's in my cabin!'"

On April 21, Roberts and Newman will team up to perform at the Stars in the Sky celebrity event in New York City, which will raise money for the camps.

In the meantime, Roberts is also keen to be Newman's co-star when he makes his final movie--and she wants to play his girlfriend.

Newman recently announced plans to make just one more movie before bowing out of the film world, and when Roberts learned of his intentions during a joint appearance on breakfast show Good Morning America April 13, she begged for a role.

She squealed, "Do it with me! I'm serious! Play my boyfriend!" Newman responded, "Okay... Boy, that'll shake 'em up."

In truth, Newman is planning to make his final movie with his Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid co-star Robert Redford, about two pals hiking the Appalachian trail, older and wiser.
