Tom Cruise's bizarre recent behavior and devotion to Scientology has forced movie bosses to consider scrapping Mission: Impossible III, according to widespread reports.

The Collateral heart-throb recently shocked viewers during an appearance on Oprah Winfrey's talk show last month when he spoke about new girlfriend Katie Holmes, leaped up and down on the host's famous couch and shouted, "I'm in love! I'm in love!" while laughing manically.

British newspaper The Independent reports Cruise upset many Hollywood big-hitters with his advocacy for Scientology, which saw him force director Steven Spielberg's hand to allow him to have a tent promoting the religion on the set of War of the Worlds.

Hollywood studios normally enforce a strict policy banning religious preaching on movie sets during filming.

Yesterday's edition of The New York Times quoted an executive at Viacom, film studio Paramount's parent company, as saying Mission: Impossible III's future was in doubt but no final decision had been reached.
