Nick Nolte Skips Court Because He Likes Life on Probation

Jul 22, 2005 | 10:36am EDT

Maverick movie star Nick Nolte failed to show up for a court hearing to discuss his ongoing drug rehabilitation in Malibu, California July 20, because he likes living on probation.

The Hotel Rwanda star could have been eligible for early probation termination had he shown up, but his lawyer insists he's more than happy just biding his time.

Attorney Steve Meisner says, "He decided to let the period run. When you're on probation, and you've already completed the terms and conditions, you're just walking around. You're not being supervised. You're just living your life."

Nolte is due back in court in December, when his probation is expected to be officially terminated.
