The monkey's outta work. Universal Pictures formally pulled the plug Friday on "Dieter," the would-be Mike Myers comedy currently sans Mike Myers. About 25 pre-production workers lost their jobs in the move.
Myers is being sued by Universal for walking on the project May 30; Myers, in turn, is considering suing Universal (presumably for suing him).
Steven Spielberg got involved in the mess last week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the mogul was asked by DreamWorks honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg to help the two sides work out their differences.
And while "Dieter" is dead, that doesn't mean Spielberg has failed. Apparently he's trying to swing it so Myers gives Universal another, non-"Dieter" movie.
"Dieter," about a man and his kidnapped monkey, was to be the big-screen version of Myers' "Sprockets" sketch as originally seen on "Saturday Night Live."
