The cult star, best known for her 1972 Oscar-nominated performance in movie Fat City, passed away at her home in Austin, Texas on Saturday (16Jun12), her family has confirmed to People.com.

Tyrrell, born Susan Cremer, launched her career as a stage actress in New York as a teenager, and starred opposite Art Carney in Time Out for Ginger before pursuing Hollywood roles.
She appeared in more than 75 films and TV programmes, including roles in quirky movies such as 1990's Cry-Baby and hit U.S. cop shows Kojak and Starsky & Hutch.
The actress had been wheelchair-bound since 2000 after her legs were amputated below the knee due to complications from a rare blood condition.
