Taiwanese helmer Ang Lee has tamed both the dragon and the tiger, and now he's thinking of doing the same to the Hulk.

The "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon director is in early talks to direct "Hulk" for Universal Pictures, Daily Variety says.

Much like the old tube series, the film will revolve around research scientist Bruce Banner, who, after a nuclear explosion, has the misfortune of transforming into the ugly, green and superstrong Hulk whenever he is peeved.

The film version -- said to be big-budgeted and effects-driven -- is scheduled for a 2003 release.

Currently, neither a cast nor a start date has been named.

BABE 'HOURS': Charlize Theron will star and Courtney Love might co-star in the action-thriller "24 Hours," The Hollywood Reporter tells us.

The film is about a doctor and his wife (Theron) who take matters in their own hands when their daughter is abducted by two kidnappers -- one of whom would be played by Love.

Hmmm ... Sounds like that Mel Gibson flick "Ransom" to us.

Theron was last seen onscreen in "The Legend of Bagger Vance," and Love has graced the big screen in pictures such as "Man on the Moon" and "The People vs. Larry Flynt."

SMOOTH SAILING: Warner Bros. has signed "The Perfect Storm" helmer Wolfgang Petersen to a multi-year, first-look deal to do more films at the studio on the strength of the worldwide gross of the George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg summer blockbuster, which has reached more than $327 million, Variety says.
