The Cooler star lost his cool outside a courthouse as New York Daily News staff snapper Marcus Santos attempted to get a picture of the actor and his fiancee Hilaria Thomas after they had obtained a marriage license.
Santos, who claimed he had been shoved and struck on the chin in the scuffle, submitted a criminal assault complaint against Baldwin hours after the fracas, claiming he was left with a headache and dizziness after the incident.
Baldwin took to his Twitter.com account to share his side of the story, insisting he was defending himself. He tweeted, "A photographer almost hit me in the face with his camera this morning."
And on Tuesday night, he appeared on TV to dispute claims that he sparked the street spat.
Baldwin told U.S. newsman Charlie Rose he isn't stupid enough to start a fight with a photographer, explaining, "I'm dumb but I'm not that dumb; there must have been 10 cops right there on the block."
He added, "This is a guy (Santos) who has baited me before. He'd camped out in front of my house... We ignore this stuff and we minimise these invasions in our lives until one day it's not advisable. Sometimes I do draw the line myself."
