The Top Gun director committed suicide on 19 August (12) by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles, California, and he was remembered by friends and relatives during a private funeral service on Friday (24Aug12).

And now in lieu of sending flowers to celebrate his life, the 68 year old's family has asked that donations be made to the Tony Scott Scholarship Fund, which was established at the American Film Institute to help carry on his legacy, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

A statement from the family reads, "The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the fund to help encourage and engage future generations of filmmakers."

Scott's official cause of death remains unknown pending an official toxicology report, which is expected in the coming weeks.
