The moviemaker came to prominence after directing 1981's The Evil Dead, which went on to spawn several sequels as well as video games and comic books.
He has also directed a number of other scary projects including 2009's Drag Me to Hell, but he now admits he was never a big fan of gory films because they frightened him as a child.
Raimi tells Reuters, "It's funny. I never liked horror films as a kid! I was a coward and they scared me. But, at the time that I was a youngster trying to break into the business there was no indie (independent film) scene. There was no Sundance Channel. The only way to break in at that time was to make a horror film for a couple (of) hundred grand. I literally started in horror just to break into the business!"
