The comedian and variety performer passed away in his sleep at his home in Queensland, Australia on Friday (31Aug12) after a two-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Bygraves entered the entertainment industry as a young man after he was refused entry to Britain's Royal Air Force because of his poor eyesight.

In the 1950s and '60s he enjoyed several movie roles and went on to present hit TV shows including Family Fortunes. He also had a stellar singing career, releasing several popular records.

Bygraves later emigrated to Australia but was left devastated by the death of his wife Blossom last year (11).

He is survived by his six children.
