The moviemaker partnered with bosses at the file-sharing website and Venice Film Festival officials, via his Scott Free Productions, to launch the Your Film Festival.

Wannabes were invited to submit 15 minute films online and Scott and actor pal Michael Fassbender selected the best 50 for YouTube voters to check out and vote for.

Victori's The Guilt was named the grand prize winner at the Venice Film Festival in Italy on Saturday (01Sep12).

He will receive $500,000 (£313,000) to create original online content for YouTube with Scott and Fassbender acting as executive producers.

The thrilled newcomer says, "There's no better way for a director to advance in his career than to be given the opportunity to produce one of his dream projects with Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender."

The Prometheus star admits selecting the best films was more difficult than he had imagined: "They (finalists) all showed such creativity and a strong understanding of the filmmaking process. David is clearly a talented director and I can't wait to work with him and Ridley on his new YouTube project."
