The U.S. President is campaigning for re-election in November (12), and his star supporters headed to the Charlotte, North Carolina event to boost his chances of returning to the White House for another four years.

Mary J. Blige, James Taylor and the Foo Fighters performed onstage, while Scarlett Johansson and Kerry Washington gave rousing speeches in favour of Obama over Republican rival Mitt Romney - and former Desperate Housewives star Longoria later gave an emotional talk in support of the incumbent President.

She told the audience, "We're lucky that our President understands the value of American opportunity because he's lived it. And he's fighting to help others achieve it, he's fighting to make college more affordable, he's cut taxes for every working American, he's helping small businesses get loans and it's cut their taxes 18 times. And that's important.

"Mitt Romney would raise taxes on middle class families to cut his own and mine and that's not who we are as a nation. The Eva Longoria who worked at Wendy's flipping burgers, she needed a tax break - but the Eva Longoria who works on movie sets does not."

Obama is now the official Democrat candidate in the Presidential race after accepting his nomination at the rally.
