The 43 year old, who played Leatherface in the 2003 horror remake, was detained by cops last week (begs03Sep12) after his California neighbour reported hearing the sound of howling animals coming from his mobile home, and smelling the stench of faeces.

The actor and his girlfriend were taken into custody after officers allegedly discovered 25 dogs and puppies without food or water during a visit to his compound on Saturday (08Sep12).

But Bryniarski insists the arrest was all a big misunderstanding.

He tells TMZ.com, "Nobody cares for my dogs better than I do, or finds them better homes. These are lies... and the only thing that smells like p**s or maybe s**t is the story from the Santa Monica Police Department.

"We bought the RV as a mobile adoption unit about a week ago to find good, forever homes for the majority of the poms (Pomeranians), all of which we have raised ourselves or rescued."

Carers at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter are currently looking after the animals, but Bryniarski reveals he is doing everything he can to get them back.

He is due back in court on 20 September (12).
