Blake attorney: Hit man possibly killed wife

May 15, 2001 | 8:22am EDT

Reuters reports that Robert Blake's attorney, Harland Braun, is now focusing his defense on the possibility that a hit man killed Blake's wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, after ABC News reported that a gun not belonging to Blake--most likely the murder weapon--had been found near the crime scene. Said Braun of the rare Walther PPK pistol found nearby: "It's fairly common for assassins to dump the gun. I'm working on the hit man theory. [The crime] is consistent with a hit man. It's not my client, so it has to be a hit man." Los Angeles police have not commented on the reported discovery of the gun.
