Creator George Lucas has sold the production company behind the phenomenally successful movie series to bosses at Disney in a deal worth a staggering $4 billion.

The newly-owned Lucasfilm team will now get to work on three new films, of which the first, Episode 7, will follow 1983's Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in the franchise's timeline.

The news has sent fans into a spin about the possible return of original co-stars Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, and the actress - who played Princess Leia - is keen to reprise her cult role.

When asked if she would like to return to the series, she tells TMZ.com, "Yes. Sure. Wouldn't you?"
