Bob Hope's daughter hosts huge garage sale

Dec 09, 2012 | 4:15am EST

Queues began forming outside the mansion in Toluca Lake, California before sunrise as hundreds jostled to get their hands on pieces of items from Hope's house.

Objects for sale included Hope's holiday decorations, as well as books, knick-knacks and toys, and fans were pictured leaving the sale clutching armfuls of goods.

Hope's daughter Linda, who organised the sale ahead of the property's scheduled auction date, says, "The idea of the garage sale is to clear out those everyday things that are still cluttering the place. It's just everyday stuff that you would normally find at a garage sale. We are hoping fans will find little things to treasure and remember dad by or even stuff that they might use in their own homes. This is a clean-out rather than a money-making venture."

The property will go under the hammer next year (13) along with other more expensive items such as furniture and art.

Hope died in 2003 aged 100 and his wife, Dolores, passed away in September, 2011.
