Universal plunges into "Sub-Mariner"

Marvel Comics' first superhero, the protagonist in its Sub-Mariner series, will be coming to the big screen thanks to Universal Pictures. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal is negotiating to buy the film rights to the comic-book franchise, which began in 1939. Sub-Mariner tells the story of a rebellious inhabitant of Atlantis--part man, part amphibian--who crusades to rid the oceans of humankind's waste. Universal is also set to produce a live-action version of The Hulk, directed by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's Ang Lee.
