Jul 27, 2001 | 11:32am EDT

The Radio-Television News Directors Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press have joined hands to condemn a proposal by the University of Oregon that would limit news clips of University of Oregon basketball games to 20 seconds. In an announcement last week, the university also announced plans to limit TV interviews with players and coaches. Broadcasting and Cable magazine quoted Ray Marcano, president of the SPJ, as saying, "No one should attempt to place restrictions on how the press does its job or try to impose guidelines that impact reporting and, in essence, select which journalists get to report the news."
