Baseball biopic 42 has hit a home run at the U.S. box office with a $27.3 million (£17 million) taking on its opening weekend. The movie about the sport's first African-American hero Jackie Robinson and the struggles he faced to become a star debuted at the top of the box office on Sunday (14Apr13), with over $10 million (£6.25 million) more than another new release, Scary Movie V, which came in second. The Robinson biopic also smashed baseball film records by landing the biggest opening for any movie about the sport. Animated caveman movie The Croods takes third place with $13.2 million (£8.25), while G.I. Joe: Retaliation is fourth and horror film remake Evil Dead is fifth.
