Fall Out Boy pay tribute to Spinal Tap on TV

Fall Out Boy paid homage to comedy rockers Spinal Tap during a TV performance in America on Wednesday night (17Apr13) by recreating the movie trio's fabled gig disasters onstage. Bassist Pete Wentz pretended to be stuck in a giant pod that would not open mechanically, as planned, and he was temporarily replaced in the band by actor/comedian Harry Shearer, whose Spinal Tap character Derek Smalls was stuck in an alien pod onstage in the cult film This is Spinal Tap! Wentz finally freed himself during the performance of My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up) and joined his band after fist bumping his fellow bass player, who stuck around for the entire song on Conan. The group was also joined onstage by a troupe of dancing druids, referencing the mystical extras who appeared in Spinal Tap's mockumentary during an ill-advised recreation of the birth of Britain's ancient religious site Stonehenge.
