Celebrated children's author E.l. Konigsburg has passed away at the age of 83. She died in hospital in Florida on Friday (19Apr13) after suffering a stroke. Konigsburg began writing when her youngest child started to go to school and had her first book - Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth - published in 1967. It was quickly followed by From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler the same year (67). She twice received the John Newbery Medal, a literary award given by the Association for Library Service to Children, making her one of only five writers to do so. Konigsburg released 16 kids' books and three illustrated picture books. Several of her works were adapated for TV, with Ingrid Bergman starring in 1973 film The Hideaways, based on the novel From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
