Reese Witherspoon pretended she was pregnant during a roadside argument with a cop in Georgia which landed her behind bars. The Legally Blonde star was arrested for disorderly conduct last month (Apr13) following a bust-up with a traffic cop who had pulled over the car her husband, Jim Toth, was driving. Witherspoon, who publicly apologised for her bad behaviour, has now spoken in detail about the verbal altercation which led to her arrest, revealing she told the officer "crazy things" and even pretended she was pregnant. She tells America's ABC News, "It was one of those nights, we went out to dinner in Atlanta and we had one too many glasses of wine. We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not... I had no idea what I was saying that night. I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things. I told him I was pregnant - I'm not pregnant. I said crazy things. I have no idea what I was talking about... I was so disrespectful to him." Witherspoon goes on to reveal she has since spoken to the cops involved in the incident and apologised for her bad behaviour: "I spoke to them and said 'There was no reason to be disrespectful' all I can say is I was just panicked." The mother-of-three also admitted telling her two eldest children was "the hardest part" of the whole drama, adding, "Having to tell (the) kids... We had to say, 'When you make a mistake, you take responsibility and we are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right'. You just have to be honest with them. That was definitely the hardest part." However, Witherspoon can still see the funny side of the incident, joking that she fell into her Legally Blonde lawyer character. She adds, "I played a lawyer in a movie so many times, I think I am a lawyer and clearly I'm not a lawyer 'cos I got arrested." Witherspoon was booked for disorderly conduct, and Toth is facing a DUI charge. They are due to appear in court in Atlanta later this month (May13).
