Justin Bieber was the target of an online scandal on Saturday (04May13) after hackers posted false messages on an American news site's Twitter.com page, outing the singer as a homosexual. Computer hacking group the Syrian Electronic Army claimed responsibility for breaking into E! Online's secure social networking site and suggested the teen pop star had 'come out' to newsmakers. The first tweet announced, "Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I'm a gay", while another suggested the singer's on/off girlfriend Selena Gomez was supporting his decision. The hackers also targeted United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie and her work with Syrian refugees fleeing to Jordan, posting "Angelina Jolie admits, in E! latest issue, that Jordan is to blame for the Syrian refugees' atrocious conditions." Chiefs at E! Online have since deleted the tweets and posted an apology which reads, "This account @eonline was compromised and some incorrect information was sent out. We're working with Twitter now to fix this."
