Singer Gloria Estefan has thrown her support behind a campaign to restore an historic stadium in her Florida hometown. The Latin superstar has agreed to be the face of a public drive to raise the $30 million (£19 million) needed to renovate the Miami Marine Stadium, which has been closed since 1992 and is now covered in graffiti. It is one of the 34 "national treasures" on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list of American venues in need of saving, and Estefan insists the innovative structure is like no other in the world. She tells The Miami Herald, "We are a very young city, but we've been here long enough to have a history, and it behooves (is necessary for) us to save places like this. I've been around the world, and there is nothing like this anywhere that I've been... There is such an energy there. A lot of people don't even know it's there. We want to get it in the public eye. Once they're aware of it, people will want to keep this place."
