The Lord Of The Rings star Viggo Mortensen will be the toast of the AMFM Fest in California next month (Jun13) - he has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dennis Lee Hopper Award. The actor will be handed the honour during a special ceremony in Cathedral City on 16 June (13) in honour of his work as an artist and advocate for social change. Event director Robert Galarza tells TheWrap.com, "Dennis believed that to be an artist, you had to embrace all the arts. Viggo has his photography, painting, writing, poetry and philosophical musings, in addition to his acting ability, and he has no great ego as an artist. He allows the art to move through him like a vessel, which is how Dennis saw the world." Mortensen's artwork will be on display at the festival, while new documentary Wild Horses and Renegades, in which features, will be screened for attendees. Previous recipients of the prize, which is dedicated to late movie star, photographer and artist Dennis Hopper, include Quantum Leap's Dean Stockwell and Sid and Nancy filmmaker Alex Cox.
