British pop star Kimberley Walsh suffered a meltdown and tried to wreck her tent during a gruelling charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. The singer joined her fellow Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole and other celebrities including U.K. radio presenter Fearne Cotton to conquer the formidable Tanzanian peak in 2008 in aid of the Comic Relief charity. The group scaled the mountain but conditions on the 5,895-metre (19,341-feet) climb and the change in air quality at high altitude pushed Walsh to the brink, and she flipped after losing her cell phone. She tells British magazine Hello!, "Yes, mentally and physically (it was tough). When I look back I can't believe what we went through. I don't think any of us realised that you can die up there until halfway up we saw a guy being carried down. "Then Fearne became desperately ill... It was the altitude; it makes you emotional. I can normally keep myself in check, but I completely lost it. I mislaid my mobile phone - which didn't even work up there - and it felt as if the world had ended. I burst into tears and dashed into our tent, trying to pull up the bottom of the canvas like a mad woman. Cheryl just said to me, 'You're acting really weird. What's going on? This isn't like you.'"
