Rick Springfield to pen fiction novel

May 28, 2013 | 9:21am EDT

Singer Rick Springfield is putting pen to paper to become a first-time novelist. The Jessie's Girl hitmaker is teaming up with publishers at Touchstone to release Magnificent Vibration in May, 2014, and Springfield, whose original dream was to be a writer, insists he's excited about getting back to his creative roots. He says, "I thought that fiction might be in my future but then my career took a different path once the Beatles showed me what a blast being in a band could be." The book will tell the story of a man who finds God's phone number in a self-help guide and uses it for good to save the planet. Springfield has had some success in the literary world already - his 2010 memoir, Late, Late at Night was a New York Times bestseller.
