Beloved nature broadcaster Sir David Attenborough is recovering well after undergoing heart surgery on Tuesday (04Jun13). The 87 year old, who is the younger brother of movie legend Lord Richard Attenborough, underwent an urgent operation to have a pacemaker fitted, and is now said to be making good progress. A spokesman for the star, who cancelled a speaking tour of Australia to have the surgery, says, "Sir David has now had the operation and his doctors are satisfied with his progress... It's a minor procedure but it meant that he cannot go on a 27-hour flight to Australia. He's very disappointed that he can't fulfil the tour but it's nothing to be alarmed about. He's seeing his doctor now but he's still his lively self." Attenborough has fronted nature series such as Life on Earth and The Living Planet throughout his 60-year career and has won numerous prizes for his work, including a clutch of British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.
