The Pixies have appointed The Muffs star Kim Shattuck to replace longtime bassist/singer Kim Deal. Deal announced her departure from the band after more than 25 years last month (Jun13), but the musicians bounced back by releasing their first new single in nearly a decade and now they are heading out on tour. They have given Deal's job to Shattuck, who will join them on the road for a world tour, which kicks off in France in September (13). A statement from the group reads, "Please welcome Kim Shattuck. Kim will be playing bass guitar/backing vocals on the upcoming tour announced today. You may know Kim from L.A. band The Muffs and previously from The Pandoras. We are delighted that she will be joining us on stage." Frontman Black Francis adds, "Along with everyone's favourites, we'll be playing songs that we haven't played in ages or never played live before. We've probably rehearsed some 80 songs, so we'll be able to change up the set at the last minute if we feel like it. We're all really looking forward to this tour." The tour will begin in Paris, France on 29 September (13) and also includes stops in Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Britain, and further dates are expected to be announced shortly.
