British actress Joanna Lumley dished out life and career advice to pupils at a school in England over the weekend (06-07Jul13) when she was invited to give a speech at an end-of-term ceremony. The Absolutely Fabulous star attended the event at Westonbirt School in Gloucestershire, England on Saturday (06Jul13) and gave the key note speech to female students. Lumley spoke about her own time at school, while she also gave the girls advice about careers, insisting they must stay in work and never settle for taking state employment benefit hand-outs, saying, "You must swear never to go on the dole, find something to do. By doing (sic) you become employable. It doesn't matter what the job is, by working you learn new things, meet new people and are exposed to new ideas." She also urged the youngsters not to worry too much about their grades and warned them to avoid becoming too reliant on cell phones, insisting, "Don't be a servant to your phone. If all you are doing is reacting to calls then you never develop. You need to have time to be free and for your heads to be free to think." The school's headmistress, Natasha Dangerfield, hailed Lumley's visit as a big success: "The girls loved her. We all loved her and she was gracious and entertaining, and we fully endorse her tips for the girls. If they follow her advice I am sure they will fare well as adults."
