Fans with tickets to a music festival in London on Friday (12Jul13) will be able to enjoy the show for free after Sir Elton John cancelled his headline slot. The Rocket Man hitmaker was due to top the bill at the Barclaycard presents British Summer Time event in Hyde Park, but pulled out on Tuesday (09Jul13) after doctors diagnosed him with appendicitis. Organisers of the event have now confirmed ticketholders for Friday's event will receive a full refund, but the show will still go ahead. Fans will be able to see performances from other acts on the bill, including The Kinks star Ray Davies and Elvis Costello, for free. A statement posted on the event's website reads, "Following Sir Elton John's cancellation... due to appendicitis, AEG Live and The Royal Parks confirm that the show will go on with the remaining stellar line-up for free and existing ticket holders will receive a full refund." Rob Hallett of AEG Live adds, "We certainly wish Elton a speedy recovery and know that he would have hated for us to cancel the whole day's events because of this... Our show goes on! And there's no better way to enjoy the start of our final weekend with a free event for all to enjoy with some excellent headline artists." Sir Elton has halted his European tour following the diagnosis and is expected to undergo surgery in the coming weeks.
