Singer/songwriter Brett Walker has passed away, one month before the release of his new album, Straight Jacket Vacation. He reportedly died in his sleep on Monday (08Jul13), aged 51, leaving behind a wife, Sheron, and three kids. Born in Norman, Oklahoma, Walker moved to Los Angeles when he was 21 to launch a career in music and during his early rise to fame collaborated with rockers Survivor and Jonathan Cain of Journey. Walker co-wrote his biggest hit, Waiting for Love, for Canadian supergroup Alias in 1991 and three years later he released his debut solo album, Nevertheless. The star, who also made numerous musical contributions to TV shows One Tree Hill, Felicity, Baywatch and One Life to Live, was slated to release his next record on 30 August (13), but the project will now be released posthumously under the direction of his widow. A statement from Georg Siegl, the head of his record label AOR Heaven, reads, "In deep mourning and dismay, we received the tragic information that Brett sadly has passed away. It seems a bit bizarre that this blessed musician is no longer with us. Brett was full of energy and thirst for action, and was looking forward to the release of his new album... "We will do our best to treat Brett Walker's musical legacy with dignity and the appreciation he deserves. At the same time, we wish his wife Sheron and his three children the necessary power to hurdle this stroke of fate."
