Celebrated Welsh author and playwright Elaine Morgan has died at the age of 92. She passed away at her home in Wales last Friday (12Jul13) after suffering a stroke. After winning a writing competition in 1950, Morgan joined the BBC and started working on televised plays. She went on to win two British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards and two Writers' Guild Awards. In the 1970s, she began work on her own theory of human evolution, and wrote the pioneering international bestseller The Descent of Woman, which transformed her into a feminist icon. Morgan was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal in 2009, and was made an honorary fellow at both Cardiff and Glamorgan universities in Wales.
