British rocker Pete Doherty is planning a second stint at a rehab clinic in Thailand after failing to quit drugs during his first stay there last year (12). The former Libertines frontman, who has battled substance abuse issues for more than a decade, cut short his stint at The Cabin in Chiang Mai last July (12) after failing to wean himself off heroin substitute methadone. Doherty has now revealed he has managed to cut back on smoking crack cocaine, but he is still suffering addiction problems and wants to return to the Thai clinic later this year (13). He tells NME magazine, "The best thing that's happened to me, health-wise, was to go to Thailand. It was basically an ex-holiday resort, quite a high-class hotel that they turned into a rehab. I kind of cracked it... I was on the methadone. Reduce, reduce, reduce. Four weeks in, I'm ready to get off the methadone, and bang. It just didn't happen... "I could really see myself going somewhere like that (again) and doing it properly. The next step is to take a proper run at it this time... Just really f**king look after myself. Get in a safe place and go for it, just get f**king clean." Doherty also reveals he has been suffering nasty side-effects from cutting down his drug intake, including a cough and a number of painful abscesses on his foot. He adds, "When I stop smoking crack, which I have done recently - I am smoking a lot less - my lungs, all of a sudden, start churning out all this horrible s**t... I'm not too bad at the moment... (But) that foot was like a rhino's head. Sometimes there's a series of abscesses (there)."
