Bertrand Cantat plotting musical comeback

Controversial French singer Bertrand Cantat is planning to relaunch his music career by releasing a solo album later this year (13). The Noir Desir frontman was jailed in 2004 for killing his girlfriend, Marie Trintignant, during a domestic dispute, and he has dabbled in music since he was freed in 2007, playing a handful of gigs, collaborating with other artists and releasing a theatrical concept album in 2011 as part of a quartet. However, he is now plotting to resurrect his rock career by returning to the spotlight with a new solo record, which is slated to hit shelves in November (13). The news is expected to spark a reaction from anti-domestic violence activists, who have long opposed Cantat during his post-prison career. He has attempted to launch himself as an actor in recent years, but was dropped from a theatre production in Canada in 2011 following pressure from campaign groups. He also pulled out of an appearance at an arts festival in France that same year (11) after celebrated actor Jean-Louis Trintignant quit in protest at sharing the bill with the man who was convicted of killing his daughter.
