Kylie Minogue and Geoffrey Rush scoop Helpmann Awards

Kylie Minogue and Geoffrey Rush were among the homegrown stars feted on Monday (29Jul13) at an Australian awards ceremony recognising achievement in live performing arts. The pop singer was named the recipient of the 2013 JC Williamson Award, which is given to individuals who have "made an outstanding contribution to the Australian live entertainment and performing arts industry". Minogue was unable to attend the prizegiving at the Sydney Opera House and appeared instead via videolink, while her sister Dannii took to Twitter.com to give her a shout out, tweeting, "Congrats kylieminogue for JC Williams award... From singing into hairbrushes a lifetime ago to lifetime achievement awards," to which Kylie replied, "Amazing... Thank you!!!!!" In the theatre categories, Oscar winner Rush was unveiled as the Best Male Actor in a Musical for his role in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, while Legally Blonde the Musical picked up five trophies, including the coveted Best Musical honour. Bruce Springsteen was crowned Best International Act in the concert segment, while Neil Finn and Paul Kelly were voted Best Australian Act.
