Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organisation behind the Oscars, have elected their first African-American president. Marketing and film consultant Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who has worked on Oscar-winning movies such as The Artist and The King's Speech, has been voted in as the new head of the Academy. The appointment makes her the organisation's first African-American president, and the first woman to hold the position since Fay Kanin stepped down in 1983. She replaces Hollywood producer Hawk Koch, who served a one-year term as president.
