Antonio Banderas was reluctant to take his wife Melanie Griffith to his Spanish hometown for a spectacular religious festival as he feared she would think his upbringing had made him "crazy". The Evita star grew up in the sun-kissed resort of Malaga, where every year residents whip themselves into a frenzy at extravagant street parades during Holy Week. He was desperate to show his wife the city where he grew up, but the couple only got round to travelling there for the first time this year (13) as Banderas was worried Griffith would have second thoughts about his mental state when she observed the crazed celebrations. He tells British newspaper The Times, "I mean, what is my wife going to think if I take her to the Semana Santa, the Easter Holy Week in Malaga, and she sees these hooded guys with pointed hats carrying a six-tonne float for 11 hours? If she sees crowds of people screaming at statues of the Virgin? She's going to think I'm crazy... "(But when we went there) my wife was like, 'Why haven't you shown me this before? I know so much more about you now. Suddenly everything clicks.'"
