Celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke was sent to rehab to deal with a secret heroin addiction. The celebrated stylist, who has worked with stars including Kate Moss and was a favourite of late royal Diana, Princess of Wales, has confessed his shocking secret in a new interview in which he addresses his drug problems for the first time. Clarke admits he began experimenting with drugs during his time on the celebrity party circuit back in the 1980s, and reveals he was forced to face his demons and enrol in rehab after his then wife, Lesley, found out and threatened to call police. He tells Britain's Mail on Sunday, "It's my biggest regret, and it horrifies me even now, but I have been in rehab for heroin addiction. This is the first time I've ever spoken about it. It was a very short period of my life and I went in with a small but regular heroin habit that I had for a year. I am sickened when I look back... (My wife threatened to) kick me out or call the police." Clarke, 55, admits he kept his problems private for the sake of his now grown-up children, adding, "I was secretive about it because they were very young children at the time... I was there (in rehab) for 10 weeks and they gave me nothing, so I had to go cold turkey. I absolutely hated being there... When people came out they would go to those narcotics anonymous meetings. I went to about four and I hated it. It was a lot of euphoric recall, and it was so not me. I never touched it ever again but I can't erase the past. Just remembering the smell made me feel sick."
