Michael Douglas' camp TV movie Behind The Candelabra stole the show at the annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday (15Sep13), picking up eight out of the nine awards it was in the running for. The Liberace biopic, which starred Douglas as the legendary entertainer and Matt Damon as his lover Scott Thorson, outshone the competition at the prizegiving, which honours the people behind-the-scenes of Hollywood. The film picked up trophies for Outstanding Art Direction, Outstanding Casting, Outstanding Costumes, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing, Outstanding Hairstyling, Outstanding Make-up, Outstanding Prosthetic Make-up and Outstanding Sound Mixing. It only missed out on the award for Outstanding Cinematography, which went to Elisabeth Moss's TV drama Top of the Lake. Boardwalk Empire was another winner on the night, taking prizes for art direction, hairstyling and sound editing. The ceremony also feted actors who make guest appearances in popular shows, and the crowd went wild when veteran funnyman Bob Newhart won his first Emmy for his role in The Big Bang Theory. Dan Bucatinsky and Carrie Preston were named Best Guest Actor and Actress in a Drama Series for Scandal and The Good Wife respectively, while Melissa Leo's cameo in Louie won her the Best Guest Actress in a Comedy. Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn shared the prize for Outstanding Host for a Reality Show for Project Runway, while Lily Tomlin picked up her fifth Emmy, her first in 32 years, for her voiceover work on documentary An Apology To Elephants.
