Acclaimed Australian author Christopher Koch has died, aged 81. The Tasmanian writer passed away in Hobart on Sunday (22Sep13) after a battle with cancer. His agent, Margaret Connolly, says, "He's left an incredibly important body of work and I think it's one that will continue to be appreciated for a very long time... He was enormous fun and he was always the same person, he wasn't changed by success." Koch wrote nine books throughout his career and won Australia's top literary prize, the Miles Franklin Award, twice, but he is best remembered for his 1978 novel The Year of Living Dangerously. The book was adapted into a 1982 film starring Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver, and it won their co-star Linda Hunt an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
