Russian punk star's appeal delayed

Pussy Riot member Maria Alekhina's appeal for freedom has been delayed until October (13). Prosecutors were granted an adjournment on Thursday (26Sep13) after it emerged not all of those involved in the case had been notified of the proceedings. Alekhina asked her mother to send her some warm clothes before she left the court in Nizhny Novgorod, where the appeal was to due be heard. Alekhina was sentenced to two years in prison last year (12) for hooliganism, alongside bandmates Yekaterina Samutsevich and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova. Samutsevich was freed in October (12) when her sentence was commuted but the other two band members remain behind bars and are not due for release until March (14). Alekhina's appeal hearing will now take place on 18 October (13).
