Steve Mcqueen's acclaimed drama has taken another step towards Oscars glory after it was named Best Picture of 2013 by California's San Francisco Film Critics Circle (SFFCC). The movie, which is tipped for an Oscar nomination, looks set to be a big winner during the 2013/14 awards season, and has now added another coveted title after taking the SFFCC's top prize. Its British star Chiwetel Ejiofor was named Best Actor, while the film also landed the Best Adapted Screenplay title. Sci-fi drama Gravity was another big winner, taking four prizes including Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron, while Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her turn in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine. Jennifer Lawrence was named Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle, and James Franco landed the male equivalent for Spring Breakers. The Marlon Riggs Award for courage and innovation in local film went to director Ryan Coogler for his work on Fruitvale Station, which was based on a true story set in the Bay area. The prize was shared by a local cinema chief.
