The new winner of Britain's The X Factor has soared to the top of the U.K. singles chart, claiming the Christmas number one with a cover of Demi Lovato's song Skyscraper. Former prison officer Sam Bailey was crowned the champion of the reality show last week (15Dec13) and fans flocked to purchase her debut single, making it one of the fastest-selling tracks of the year (13). She outsold her closest rival, Pharrell Williams' Happy, by two to one. Leona Lewis remained at three with her holiday release, One More Sleep, while a public campaign to drive AC/DC's rock anthem Highway to Hell to the top of the pops to mark the band's 40th anniversary this year (13) only managed to propel the 1979 track to four, ahead of DJ Avicii's Hey Brother at five. Meanwhile, the top three on the U.K. albums chart was unchanged - Robbie Williams held off a charge from One Direction's Midnight Memories to retain first place, while his former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow's Since I Saw You Last is at three.
