12 Years A Slave scores six nods for Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards

Steve Mcqueen's 12 Years A Slave will lead the way at the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards in Canada after scoring six nominations. The drama will compete for the top prize of Best Film, alongside Alfonso Cuaron's space disaster Gravity and Joel and Ethan Coen's Inside Llewyn Davis, while the filmmakers behind all three projects will go head-to-head for Best Director. 12 Years A Slave and Inside Llewyn Davis are also shortlisted for Best Screenplay with Spike Jonze's digital romance Her. Meanwhile, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) will compete for Best Actor, and Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity) and Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha) are up for Best Actress. Bradley Cooper (American Hustle), Michael Fassbender (12 Years A Slave), Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) and Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years A Slave) have all landed nods for supporting actor categories. The winners of the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards will be announced on 7 January (14) during a ceremony in the Canadian city.
