TV bosses behind hit period drama Downton Abbey have dismissed rumours suggesting the show is about to go off-air for good. The show's creator, Julian Fellowes, sparked rumours he will be walking away from the popular series after confirming plans to write a new U.S. drama called The Gilded Cage. Online gossip suggested the show would subsequently come to an end after its fifth season, but executive producer Gareth Neame has now spoken out to insist Downton Abbey is not finishing any time soon. He tells Britain's The Sun, "I can confirm there are no plans to end the show after the fifth series. (Network bosses) commission the show on a year-by-year basis. For now, (bosses at British network) ITV have commissioned series five and that is what we are busy preparing." The fourth series of Downton Abbey is currently airing to record-breaking ratings in the U.S.
