Famed female wrestler Mae Young has died at the age of 90. The ring queen, a pioneer for women in the male-dominated sport, passed away at her home in South Carolina on Thursday (09Jan14) after a battle with ill health. She had been in hospital with an undisclosed illness since last month (Dec13) and was put on a life support machine. She was reportedly taken off life support on Thursday and placed under hospice care at her home, but died hours later. Young launched her grappling career in the 1930s and continued to contest bouts with opponents until 2010. An inductee of the sport's WWE Hall of Fame, she was the only U.S. wrestler ever to compete in nine separate decades.
