British singer Sam Smith has been tipped for success this year (14) after topping a list of emerging talent by the BBC. Smith, who featured on dance duo Disclosure’s hit track Latch and producer Naughty Boy’s La La La last year (13), landed top spot on the BBC Sound of 2014 poll on Friday (10Jan14).
The singer says, “I’m completely speechless. It’s a huge compliment to be recognised by the industry and the BBC in this way. I really didn’t expect it.”
Previous acts to top the annual list include Adele and Jessie J.
