Indian movie star Akkineni Nageswara Rao dead at 90

Indian movie veteran Akkineni Nageswara Rao has passed away at the age of 90. The actor died in the early hours of Wednesday morning (22Jan14) while receiving treatment for intestinal cancer at a hospital in Hyderabad, India.
An icon of the Telugu cinema, the film industry based in south India, he made his screen debut aged 17 in 1941’s Dharmapatni.
He went on to star in around 250 films over seven decades, and was a recipient of the Indian film industry’s highest accolade the Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1991. He was also feted by the government with a top civilian prize, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2011.
Rao was also a celebrated writer, publishing several semi-autobiographical books.
