Pop star Lorde thanked her fellow New Zealanders after her Grammy Awards win by publishing a full-page handwritten note in a national newspaper. The 17-year-old singer won two top prizes for her hit single Royals - Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance - during the glitzy ceremony at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday (26Jan14) and she jetted back to her homeland this week (beg17Jan14). Lorde marked her return by penning a tribute to her countrymen, thanking them for their support in the early days of her career. The handwritten letter was published on a full page in the New Zealand Herald on Wednesday (29Jan14) ahead of her homecoming show in Auckland that night. The note reads, "Holy c**p! It was a crazy day & my friends and family over here are still freaking out. I just wanted to say thank you for the time you've given me over these past 4 months. Finding out about me online or inbetween these pages or in your headphones. Without your support, there's no way I would ever have gotten to stand in the middle of the Staples Centre (sic) & perform in my school shoes."
